The Casper Mattress: An Insomniac’s Review

casper mattress comfortA Little Background

Let me preface this review with a couple things;

  • I tend to like my mattresses on the softer side (memory foam is my go to).
  • My previous memory foam mattress became too soft after years of use (like a weak sponge).
  • I will lay on my side, stomach, or back in order to get comfortable enough to sleep.

We’ve all seen the ad or read the article about these “straight to your door”, “best bed for a better sleep”, “mattress in a box” Casper Memory Foam Mattresses. And when it comes to solving the sleepless night problem, our minds automatically go to, “Is it time for a new mattress?”.

The first thing I did to tackle my insomnia problem was to look for a new mattress. I had a memory foam that I loved for a number of years, but it had started to get soft and weak, especially towards the middle. After shopping around I decided to give Casper a try, and here’s my experience…

The Casper Mattress: Is It Any Good?

Casper memory-foam mattress reviewWhen looking into the Casper Mattress I discovered a few things that caught my attention.

  • It ships rolled up in a box, to your doorstep. What’s better than that?
  • It has a 100 Night Trial (Free Return)
  • Comes with a 10 Year Warranty

After doing some research into other reviews, I decided to give the Casper a try.

(I could always send it back if I didn’t like it. So why not?)

(Plus, if you have Amazon Prime you can choose free two-day shipping… not bad for an entire mattress in a box huh?)

When the mattress showed up I took it out of the box to let it stretch…

…and it definitely needed to breath. It came out smelling a little like floor cleaner, which wasn’t terrible. My last memory-foam mattress smelled similar first coming out of the box.

(Just leave the mattress on your bed for a few hours, open a window, and let it expand and breathe.)

The next morning the mattress was in it’s full, true form, so I took the plastic off of it, wrangled a bed sheet around it, threw it on top of the bed frame, and laid down…

Immediately I knew I had made a good decision. The bed felt;

  • Soft (like memory foam does).
  • Firm enough to not feel as though I was sinking down into it.
  • And surprisingly cool (it was the middle of July, so this was perfect).

I rolled around it for a bit, testing how it felt on my back, side, and stomach. No matter how I laid, the Casper mattress seemed to cradle the contour of my body.

(So far so good.)

I was actually pretty excited to try and get some sleep that night!

After a couple hours of watching a movie and browsing through meaningless things on the internet, I got to sleep. Then morning came.

This was the best sleep, in terms of quality, that I have gotten in a long time.

Review: After (1 Year) of Use

It’s been 1 Year this month (as of me writing this) since I ordered my Casper mattress, and I’m still sleeping on it.

  • Still maintaining it’s form.
  • Still keeps the underside of me cool.
  • Still having great quality of sleep.

The 100 Night Trial is well over but I still have the 10 Year Warranty on my side just in case, but I have a good feeling I’ll be sleeping on the Casper mattress for many years. It’s the perfect balance for me between soft and firm and I continuously feel like I’m getting my “hours of being asleep”s worth.

Will the Casper mattress get you to go to sleep at a reasonable hour?

No, but…

casper mattress qualityEven though the Casper doesn’t solve my problem of being able to get to sleep, it does have a great track record with me for ensuring that the hours I do sleep are well worth it. I wake up fairly easily and have no pains in my joints, making mornings a lot easier.

So if your current mattress is

  • Going on 8 years (or older).
  • Has lost it’s shape and is leading to joint pains, groggy mornings, or uncomfort at night.
  • Not giving you good quality of sleep.

…Or if you have ever wanted to try a memory foam mattress,  I would recommend giving the Casper mattress the 100 Night trial. It comes in;

  • Twin
  • Twin X-Large
  • Full
  • Queen
  • King
  • California King

A great price for what really is a high quality memory-foam mattress, and “The Best Bed for Better Sleep”.

Reviews From Others

It’s nice…

“It’s a nice bed. The best part, and the reason I went Casper, was price and the elimination of noisy springs. Took me about a week and a half to get used to it’s firmer feel but I’m used to it now and sleep fine. It’s a good mattress but I don’t think it’s the life changing mattress that some of the reviews claim it is.” – Kimberly, NJ

Takes some time to break in, but after 45 days, still enjoying it

“This is my first foam mattress, in the past I’ve had eggshell pads on top of inner spring. I’m used to sleeping with a comforter, but so far I haven’t used it much (it’s July right now) because the mattress traps heat pretty well. I’ve rarely been too hot, although I’m guessing it would get pretty toasty with another person on it. Breaking it in was uncomfortable, even painful sometimes; I didn’t like waking up with sore shoulders. The only other thing I didn’t expect is how heavy the mattress is. A full size is over 80 pounds. I don’t have a reference point, but that seemed plenty heavy to me, especially when I had to move it myself.” -Noah, IL

Casper mattress, my new best friend!

“In my 37 years alive I’ve never slept on anything like it! I love my Casper mattress! I sleep all the way through the night now and I wake up pain free!! My old mattress made me wake up several times a night and I would wake up in horrible pain! Since I started sleeping on mine in May I haven’t had any pain or restless nights!! I’m a walking advertisement for Casper!!”-Louise, NJ

In Love with our Casper Mattress

“My husband and I kept rolling into the middle of our old mattress. I called it the “crater.” We did extensive research on mattresses and saw that Casper mattresses were rated highly by Consumer Reports. We decided to give it a try and it turned out to be a great decision. I like firm mattresses and my husband likes soft. He gets hot easily. We have had ZERO issues with our mattress. We have a king bed and it’s perfect for both of us. Our cat, Gracie, likes to lay between our pillows. Highly recommend! Delivery process was so easy!”-Kate, WI

Casper Mattress FAQ

Q: What is the 100-Night Trial?

A: Sleep on the sheets, chill on the pillow, dream on the mattress (whether you are human or  hound) — you can try all the products in the comfort of your home for 100 nights from the day you receive them. This post-purchase, risk-free 100-night trial serves as our return policy. If you decide the Casper mattress, foundation or metal bed frame aren’t for you, we’ll send a courier over to remove the product from your home and either donate it to a local charity or have it recycled. Either way, your original form of payment will be refunded 100 percent. (Taken from the Casper site).

Q: How long does it take the mattress to arrive?

A: With Amazon Prime I received mine in 2 days. If you don’t have Prime it can take between 1-5 business days.

Q: Where can I buy the Casper mattress?

A: Casper sells directly on Amazon here!

Q: How does the ’10 Year Warranty’ compare to other brands?

A: I’m not sure. I’ve heard there are longer warranties out there, but since you should replace your mattress every 7 years*, I think a 10 year warranty is plenty.
